Popular Dublin restaurant urges influencers to 'consider small businesses with livelihoods on the line' after one asking for free meal failed to show up

A popular Dublin restaurant has urged influencers to "consider the small businesses with livelihoods on the line" after one looking for a free meal failed to show up.

Chimac is a popular Aungier Street eatery that specialises in Korean fried chicken and Irish craft beers.

The restaurant accepted a request from an unnamed influencer "unashamedly asking for a free meal" - which they provided, saying that "looking down the barrel of four more months being closed, any publicity is great".

But the group in question never showed up.

"This week a Dublin food influencer contacted us unashamedly asking for a free meal," they wrote on Twitter.

"We don’t usually do this kind of thing but we reckoned that during this pandemic and looking down the barrel of four more months being closed, any publicity is great.

"We prepared a large meal to feed four at the specified time.

"The influencer never turned up or contacted us.

"We won’t name names but if you’re an influencer we urge you to consider the small businesses with livelihoods on the line - a little respect goes a long way!"

However, this story does have somewhat of a happy ending, as the eatery later posted that the influencer had got back in contact with them to apologise.

They also thanked people for their support and confirmed that some hungry Deliveroo workers were able to get their hands on the meal instead.

"Thanks so much for all the support today everyone - some very kind words that are much appreciated," they said.

"The person in question has been in touch with an apology which we’ve accepted.

"PS: The food found a great home via some happy Deliveroo drivers, fret not!"
