Popular Dublin outdoor markets suspended over Covid fears

A number of popular food markets across Dublin have been suspended over COVID-19 fears.

The news comes as cases in the capital continue to soar with 1,119 of the infections being reported in Dublin last night.

As a result, the following outdoor markets will be closed until further notice:

  • Thursday lunchtime market at Merrion Square
  • Saturday market at St Anne's Park
  • Sunday market at Herbert Park

A statement on each of their Facebook pages reads: "We are very sorry to announce that we have made the hard decision to close the markets for the next few weeks.

"While our health system is under such severe pressure, we feel this is the best way to protect us all. We thank you so much for your support, and interest in the markets.

"We hope to see you all before long, once we feel it’s safe enough to open again.

"Keep your eyes peeled on our social media so that you don’t miss our announcements. Stay safe, happy and healthy."
