Popular Dublin GAA team 'new to running' aiming to cover 1,500km in 30 days to raise money for two charities

A south Dublin GAA team who describe themselves as "new to running" is aiming to cover 1,500km in 30 days to help raise funds for not one but two charities.

St James Gaels GAA Club are taking on the tricky task in an effort to gather cash for Pieta House and Capuchin Day Centre for homeless people.

Members of the club's notorious Division 11 side kicked off the running on January 11 along with a GoFundMe which hopes to raise a euro for every kilometre covered by the lads.

But as club player Mo Price points out, there's only one problem that stands in the team's way.

He said: "The St. James Gaels GAA Division 11 football team have decided to set a high bar for pre-season training during lockdown this year.

"But despite being a football team, this running lark is new to most of us."

He added: "Our goal is to run a collective 1,500km in 30 days, and to try and raise €1,500 for our two chosen charities: Pieta House and Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People.

"Just a couple of lads looking to get fit and raise some money for charity in the process."

He continued: "Any help and motivation towards achieving our goal of helping two fantastic charities would be very much appreciated.

"During these hard times they deserve all the support they can get."
