Popular Dublin barber shop issues sad statement as they close down

A Dublin community was left dismayed after a popular business was forced to close after almost ten very successful years, crippled by the Covid-19 crisis.

Terenure Village Barber in South Dublin said it simply couldn't continue to wait for the current pandemic to end and lockdown restrictions to lift and with a heavy heart, announced its permanent closure.

The often busy shop located at Dress Circle in the middle of the village popularity was evident through the long queues it garnered while operating, Dublin Live reports.

In a heartbreaking statement, staff at the busy barbers thanked everybody who had crossed their door over their nine-year tenure in the south Dublin suburb.

They started by saying: "C'est la vie. End of a decade.

"Due to a saturated barbers market and the impact of Covid-19, we have decided to close Terenure Village Barbers on a permanent basis.

"This has not come as an easy decision. Without getting caught up in the explanation, we want to thank every single customer that has crossed our doors along with their favourite barbers: Vanessa, James, Cathy and Warren who worked tirelessly over our nine year presence in the area.

"Terenure was a second home where we made friends and lots of memories. Finally we want to thank Deirdre and Niamh, our amazing landlords, for their support.

They finished up by ending: "We simply just want to say, Thank You."

Tributes and well wishes poured in for the business with many regulars having hoped to get their chop there once the lockdown was lifted.

One customer said: "Gutted to hear but thank you for the last nine years of top notch cuts James and Vanessa. Sad loss for the village! Best of luck in your plans for the future."

Another added: "Sad news but you pair are a phenomenal team! Always loved the chats and laughs! I know you pair have new lives ahead of you but you will be sorely missed in Terenure and it was always a pleasure. Best of luck with your new endeavours."

A third commented: "Best barbers in Ireland. So sorry to hear this James and Vanessa. Even after I moved to Tipperary a couple of years ago, I still managed to plan a hair cut around trips to Dublin, it was that good! Had planned on bringing my young lad for his first hair cut at some point. He only turned 1 at the weekend. Best of luck to you all for the future."

And a fourth said: "I'm so sorry to hear this James and Vanessa. Your service and standards were impeccable.

"My two boys and myself always felt like a million bucks when we left your shop. I was looking forward to bringing the littlest one there when he was old enough.

"Thanks for the great cuts, the chats and the comic-books. Please let us know if you decide to open up another barbers at some point - the drive will be worth it.

"This is a very sad day for the village, but I'm sure the decision was not made lightly. The best of luck for the future."
