Popular Derry business closes this week 'due to lack of PCR tests available'

A popular business in the heart of Derry has taken the decision to close this week due to close contacts struggling to book themselves in for a PCR test.

Nonna's Woodfired Pizzas is based in Shipquay Street with a delivery service from Derry's Spencer Road in the Waterside area.

In a social media statement, Nonna's Woodfired Pizzas said: "Unfortunately our close contacts can’t even get PCR tests as there is none available so we have had to make the decision to keep Shipquay St closed this week.

"We are so sorry we have had to disappoint people and will be in contact shortly with everyone who has booked.

"In the meantime Spencer Rd is open as normal from 4pm for collection and delivery.

"Thanks everyone for your kind messages and support."

Across Northern Ireland, businesses are choosing to close their doors due to increasing positive cases among staff.

In Fermanagh, Lough Erne Resort has announced it is to implement a short-term ‘circuit breaker’ closure due to the increasing levels of Covid-19.

With immediate effect all dining facilities and the spa at the resort have been closed to non-residents, while the hotel will close to residents from 12noon on December 30.

In Belfast, The Barking Dog, on the Malone Road, had postponed their reopening after Christmas until December 30 after a number of positive cases in their staff team.

But in an update today, the owner says they still don't have the staff to operate properly.

They said: "Bad news folks, we’ve come to the decision to remain closed until next week. We just don’t have the staff available to us to operate properly until more of our team get a clean bill of health. "
