Popular David Walliams play to be performed at open-air theatre in Bristol

Bristol is home to some truly excellent theatres which have all been badly missed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The seats at Bristol Old Vic, the Hippodrome, Tobacco Factory Theatre and others have all been empty for much of the past 12 months and we're longing for our return.

But we don't have too long to wait, as theatres across England have been given the green light to reopen from May 17 as part of the Government's roadmap to exit lockdown.

Bristol Old Vic has announced it will bring back the gripping Touching The Void back to mark its relaunch, while the Hippodrome has said it will stay shut until June 26.

We're also likely to see a number of open-air concerts take place across the city over the coming months, as production companies look to embrace the great outdoors where social distancing is easier.

One such performance that has just been announced is an adaptation of David Walliams' hugely popular Mr Stink, which will be staged at South Street Park in Bedminster on June 24.

The performance is being put on by nationally renowned touring theatre company Heartbreak Productions.

Mr Stink follows the story of two restless souls who meet each other on a park bench in an average English town.

One of them is lonely 12-year-old Chloe Crumb and the other is a homeless man who doesn't smell too great, along with his loyal dog, the Duchess.

Chloe’s curiosity and kindness paves the way for this "extraordinary and rewarding friendship" that takes them to the heady heights of live television and Downing Street via a garden shed.

A spokesperson for Heartbreak Productions said: "Come and enjoy this heart-warming tale, a David Walliams best seller adapted for the outdoor stage.

"Bring your chairs, blankets and picnics and settle down for a fun night at this fabulously entertaining family show."
