Popular Dalbeattie youth club closes its doors for the final time

A popular Dalbeattie youth club has closed its doors for the final time.

The Blair Centre has been running since 1998, offering a chance for kids to get together to have some fun.

And while it is still loved by youngsters, a shortage of helpers means it has no future.

Chairman Doreen Whalen said: “We need more volunteers and the lease is up.

“I’ve been involved for 24 years and I feel I just can’t take it on again.”

A sale of club equipment – ranging from games consoles and scooters to bouncy castles and trampolines – took place on Saturday morning.

Doreen plans to donate the money raised to Colliston Boys Club Trust or, if it no longer exists, other charities.

She added: “We sold quite a bit but we’ve still got quite a lot we’d like to donate.

“I’ve already donated quite a bit to the nursery and also to Palnackie School.”
