Popular Co-op Food store in Cathays due to close

A popular Co-op Food store in Cardiff is due to close in November.

The lease of the shop on Crwys Road in Cathays - an area that has come to be known as the student hub of the city - is due to expire and will not be renewed.

Co-op has assured that its decision not to renew the store's lease is "in no way a reflection of the hard work and commitment of colleagues" and that it will "fully support" colleagues to find new jobs.

It also says that it is exploring moving the Crwys Road’s click and collect and home delivery service to another local store nearby.

A Co-op spokesperson said: “We can confirm the closure of our Crwys Road store, which will have its final trading day on 13 November.

"The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum and while this often involves opening new stores, we also regularly review our existing sites.

"The lease on our Crwys Road store is due to expire and after careful consideration, we have decided not to renew it.

"Our priority is to fully support our colleagues, who have been informed, and help them to find alternative roles nearby.

"We would like to thank the community for its support of this store over the years.”
