Popular city centre bar owners 'say goodbye' after 30 years

The owners of a popular city centre bar have said "goodbye" after 30 years.

Owners of Slaters Bar on Slaters Street posted a statement on Facebook on Wednesday to say after more than 30 years of running the venue they would be leaving.

In the statement, bosses said Slaters would be carrying on with new owners and staff, but they wanted to say "goodbye" before they left for good and have "absolutely loved the ride".

They also thanked their customers who have visited the venue over the three decades, including students, local residents and "karaoke crews".

The full statement read: "We haven’t posted for a while now, so I've come on for the last time before we sign off, for good!….After over 30 years, it’s time for us to say goodbye…we have absolutely loved the ride but as the saying goes, ‘all good things must come to an end’.

"Slaters will be carrying on with new owners and staff so we hope you can give them all the fantastic support we have had over the years.

"I would just like to thank all the staff and customers that have passed through our doors over the years, to all the local, after work drinkers, the ex squaddies, all the students that remember their uni days downing quads, to the different Sunday Karaoke crews over the years, to all of you, we appreciate the constant support we’ve always had.

"Slaters is a family and always has been and you’ve all been members of that family!…..see you’s around!

"Kerri x"

The announcement created an outpouring of good luck messages from customers who have visited the bar over the years and many people also shared their memories.

One person said: "End of an era met some amazing people there staff doormen punters some become life long friends always special memories good luck in new journey Kerri."

Another added: "Gosh I have soooo many memories there. Especially karaoke back in the day.

"Good luck with your new ventures and that is for the memories."
