Popular Citroen Berlingo vans sold across Ireland urgently recalled over safety fears

Hundreds of one of Ireland's most popular vans are being recalled over seatbelt safety fears.

Certain models of Citroen's Berlingo vehicles are affected by the issue.

The fault impairs the restraining effect of the front-passenger seatbelt.

Because of this, there's an increased risk of injury to passengers if the car brakes suddenly or crashes.

Over 650 vehicles, which were produced between July 2018 and November 2019, are subject to the recall.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: "I.M. European Motors Limited is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain “Berlingo” passenger vehicles.

"A safety issue has been identified, whereby, there is an increased risk of injury in an accident because the restraining effect of the front-passenger seat belt is impaired.

"The recall affects 653 vehicles in the Republic of Ireland."

All affected consumers are to be contacted by post and will be advised make an appointment with a Citroen dealer.

Necessary repairs or replacements will be carried out free of charge.

Customers can contact IM European Motors Limited’s (Citroen) Contact Centre on 01 634 3030.
