Popular cider brand removed from UK supermarket shelves and pubs

A well-liked cider brand has been permanently taken off of UK supermarket shelves, pubs, and restaurants.

Once known for its high-quality cider, Jaspels has announced that it is closing its doors. The founders have given an explanation for their tough decision.

Janet Percival, who founded Jaspels in 2017 with qualified biochemist Adrian, said “Jaspels has sadly closed for a number of reasons” and that seasonal difficulties, lease issues and a change in personal circumstances are all contributing factors.

Percival said: “That on top of seasonality challenges made it unviable in the end. A change of personal circumstances also meant we could not continue as myself and Ade separated due to stress. I left in November, and it finally closed mid-July.

“I would like to say that we loved every moment of Jaspels and will miss the barn and bar massively. We hope it will hold happy memories for you all over the nine years it was open in Amlwch and Aberffraw. It is very sad for the island and ourselves. Thanks for the memories.”

The cider brand was founded on the Welsh island of Anglesey. To help establish the firm, the pair first appealed for apple donations on social media. As Jaspels flourished, the business acquired a production facility in Amlwch and their cider spread across pubs, restaurants and shops in the UK.

Locals bid the place a fond farewell, while customers expressed their grief over the news.

One fan wrote: “That is sad news, as quite often I’d cycle past and pick up a bottle or have a refreshing glass of cider there. I hope they reopen somewhere.”

A second person echoed the sentiment, writing: “So very sad to hear this - we have enjoyed Jaspels on so many occasion's - it was such a idyllic location and had amazing views.”

Another added: “Such a shame. We were looking forward to visiting for our yearly Jaspels Cider fix next week. Good luck for the future.”

A fourth expressed their disappointment: “So very sad to hear this - we have enjoyed Jaspels on so many occasion's - it was such a idyllic location and had amazing views.”
