The owners of popular Chorlton tapas bar San Juan have acquired the site of a former pub so they have room to accommodate social distancing when they reopen next week.
The tapas bar on Beech Road will temporarily extend into the building of former pub The Parlour, located one door away.
It will allow them to 'accommodate as many customers as possible', a statement on the restaurant's website says.
The tapas bar is set to reopen on July 4 when cafes, bars and pubs across the country are permitted to resume trading.
From next Saturday, establishments will be able to serve customers indoors, via table service.
Two households will also be allowed to meet 'in any setting' and the 2m distancing rule will change to a new '1m plus' recommendation.
Under the new guidelines, people should only visit a restaurant in their household groups (or support bubbles), or with one other household.
Alternatively they can meet with up to five other people outdoors.
Scores of bars, restaurants and cafes like San Juan are making changes to the way they operate to make their venues Covid-19 safe.
"As we have never taken reservations we are trying out different booking systems but we would like to first see how this new normal works before we start with it", the statement on the San Juan website says.
"In the meantime we are setting up a similar system to the one we have always had that we can manage within the bar for walk-ins.
"You will join a waiting list and be called 15 minutes prior to the table being ready. There will be a set time on each table of two hours in order for us to be more accurate when we have to call customers and also have time for us to disinfect the table."
