Popular children's party venue closes suddenly

A dad was left struggling to find a new party venue for his daughter's birthday after a popular centre closed suddenly.

Matthew Hillyard only found out that Let's Party had shut when he saw a comment on Facebook from another parent on Saturday.

His daughter Amelia had been due to celebrate her sixth birthday at the Bury venue the following day, so he faced a last-minute search to find a replacement.

The owners of the themed party business - which houses different rooms including an Enchanted Forest, Pamper Pad and Disco Room - said they are just as shocked about the closure.

They claim a dispute with the landlord over repair bills led to bailiffs turning up a couple of weeks ago and locking them out, leaving them with no access to their bookings and no way of contacting customers with upcoming parties.

The manager, who did not want to reveal his name, told the M.E.N: "It's concerning the landlord and the building. It's an awful situation we've found ourselves in.

"The bailiffs turned up a couple of weeks ago with a bill from the landlord for repairs, but as far as we were aware any repairs to the outside of the building aren't our responsibility."

The manager, who has been trying to sell the business due to 'family commitments' and has it listed online with Hilton Smythe for just under £25k, took over from the previous owner around four years ago.

The Kershaw Street venue is next to the Kashmir Superstore, which was damaged by a fire earlier this year.

He added: "I couldn't get access to our bookings so wasn't able to tell everyone but now we've managed to speak to near enough everybody who had a party booked and they will be having their deposits refunded."

Matthew, who managed to find a different venue for Amelia's birthday, said: "The owner was very apologetic and said he didn't have access to the numbers to let us know about the closure.

"He offered me a refund but I said he could keep it as it sounds as though it's a really bad situation."

The closure of Let's Party follows two other recent closures of play centres in Greater Manchester.

In September we reported on the closure of The Playcentre (Slide and Seek) in Hyde. Later that month we also revealed that Amazonia in The Vaults at Bolton Market Place had shut.

The venue featured its own Jungle Express train, an adventure play area, an 18-hole Lost Valley crazy golf course and play frames for kids of different ages.

The M.E.N has been unable to contact the landlord of Let's Party for a comment.
