Popular chicken product sold in Tesco stores across Ireland urgently recalled over diarrhoea fears

A product sold in Tesco stores across Ireland has been recalled over salmonella fears.

The SFC Original Chicken Poppets with a pack size of 190g are being recalled with immediate effect.

The affected batches have best before dates of 24.09.2021 and 31.10.2021 - an update to the original recall that was issued last week.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has shared the notice, noting that batches of the product with a best before date of 28.02.2022 were recalled previously.

The product has been recalled after salmonella was detected.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in Tesco stores.

An FSAI spokesman said: "People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.

"The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.

"Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days.

"Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

"The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

"Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches."
