Popular Charlestown coffee shop raise money for Women’s Aid following 'two massive tragedies' in the area

A popular Charlestown coffee shop will raise money for Women’s Aid following "two massive tragedies" in the area.

Meakstown Community Council is organising a small get together with carol singing and a visit from Santa this Friday.

All money made by Doppelgängers Coffee at the event will go to the charity.

Colin Whyte from Doppelgängers Coffee said: “Two lovely young ladies lost their lives, and this Friday we want to help.

"There is a volunteer Christmas tree lighting, we’ve decided to go there in our mobile unit and raise money for Women’s Aid.

“The community is rocked and in shock after a horrific year and needs a lift.

“And because of the great work from the Meakstown volunteers, we have agreed to use the van at this event.”

The Christmas Tree Event will take place this Friday, December 3 from 5:45pm until 7:00pm.

Meakstown Community Council said on Facebook: “We hope to have a small get together at the patch across from Eddie Rockets in Charlestown for our new Christmas tree which should be lighting by then.

“We have some carol singing and a visit from Santa. Under current circumstances we ask that you maintain a social distance at all times and any children are accompanied by an adult.

“The lads at Doppelgängers Coffee have kindly offered to donate their takings between 5:00pm and 7:30pm on the night so they will be open for hot chocolates, coffee and tea and anything you purchase in that time will go to Women's Aid, in support of domestic violence.

“There will be two spot prizes of €50 Dunnes Stores vouchers on the night and a small gift for the children.”

Women's Aid Ireland is a leading national organisation working to stop domestic violence against women and children. You can call their 24 hour national freephone helpline at 1800 341900.
