Popular Callander bridge set to be out of action until next year due to repair works

A well-used bridge at a popular Stirling beauty spot is set to be closed until next year after a survey recommended replacing the crossing.

The Bracklinn Bridge, which serves the Bracklinn Falls spot near Callander, was temporarily closed in May for a specialist survey to be carried out investigating potential weaknesses with the bridge.

It has remained closed to walkers and visitors to the site ever since - and now it is set to be removed and replaced entirely following the conclusion of the investigation work.

An update from the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, who have responsibility for the bridge, to the Observer has confirmed hopes that the bridge will be replaced by “next year”.

The bridge will now be replaced (East Kilbride News)

Kenny Auld, head of visitor services for the National Park Authority, said: “Following specialist engineering and timber surveys, The Bracklinn Bridge in Callander will be removed and replaced.

“The bridge has been closed in recent months after an inspection identified some areas of deterioration requiring further examination.

“The decision has been taken that replacing the current structure is the safest course of action. “
