Popular cafe makes decision to close 'indefinitely' with 'heavy heart' amid coronavirus outbreak

A popular cafe in Easton has closed “indefinitely”.

Dela, in Mivart Street, was based in a former Victorian warehouse which is home to a variety of independent and creative businesses.

Co-owners Mike Orme and Lara Lindsay opened the cafe-restaurant in 2017 but it was put up for sale in 2019.

However, a sign had been placed on the cafe’s door reading: “Something NEW is coming, follow @delabristol for news. See you soon!”

Unfortunately, today (March 17) the owners announced the cafe would not be reopening amid coronavirus fears.

Their post on social media read:  “It's with a heavy heart this morning that we've made the difficult decision to close Dela indefinitely.

“Our plan was to reopen at the beginning of March with some new faces running things, but unfortunately, the uncertainty, risk and pressures presented by the Covid-19 outbreak means that reopening is unviable at this time.

“It's been a wonderful few years and we hope to see you all soon when normal life resumes and the space opens its doors to Easton again in some form. Keep an eye on here for updates.”

Easton has a thriving restaurant and cafe scene, with a new Indian opening on St Marks Road before Christmas, and Dela was very much a part of that.

Other well-known local businesses in Easton such as East Bristol Bakery, supermarket Sweetmart or cafe Este Kitchen in Greenbank Road remain open.

Dela - which was known for its quality coffee, locally-sourced lunches and specialities - was Scandinavian inspired.

Named after the Swedish word for ‘share’, the cafe in the Mivart studios sold dishes made with produce from the South West, organic wine and local beers and cider.
