Popular cafe at Nottingham attraction suddenly closes after operator ceases trading

The cafe at one of Nottingham's top city centre attractions closed suddenly yesterday (Tuesday, April 9) after the outside operator ceased trading.

Currently visitors to Nottingham Contemporary, at Weekday Cross, can no longer round off their trip to the art gallery with a cup of tea or cake at the cafe downstairs.

Ottar Chocolate, an award-winning chocolatier originally based at Welbeck Farm Shop, took over the operation of the cafe last summer. The chocolate-making side of the business has also closed.

A Nottingham Contemporary spokesman said: "Ottar Chocolate ceased trading yesterday. I can't tell you why - it's not a decision taken by Nottingham Contemporary. The decision was communicated to us with extremely short notice.

"The cafe was popular and we felt it was going well. The cakes, coffee and rest of the menu were well received and we were encouraged by that.

"We are very sad that the operation has ceased. We are now evaluating all the options going forward."

A statement on the art gallery's website announcing the closure, adds: "Please watch this space for our future plans."

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Ottar Chocolate for comment.
