Popular Bristol sports pub goes up for sale

A Bristol community pub popular with sports fans has been put on the market.

The George and Dragon occupies a prime spot on Church Road, Redfield, an area that has become an increasingly attractive to young couples and professionals buying their first homes.

In recent years, the area has been transformed thanks to new openings such as the Bristol Loaf bakery and The Red Church pub, both on Church Road.

But it has retained many of its original businesses such as The Fire Engine pub and The George and Dragon, which dates back to the Victorian period.

Close to St George Park and local amenities, the pub doesn’t serve food at the moment and much of its trade comes from locals who go there for a drink and to watch all the sporting action on Sky Sports.

According to property agent Sprosen Ltd, trading accounts to the last financial year show sales of around £250,000 at the free-of-tie pub, with a net profit 'well in excess of £70,000'.

The property is subject to a ten-year lease with Wellington Pub Company and the annual rent is currently circa £37,252.

The George and Dragon is being marketed as an ‘easy to run wet sales-only’ pub with a ‘well presented’ bar with games area, patio/beer garden and outside cellar/storage. It also has a three-bedroom self-contained flat for managers/owners.

The main bar seats around 30 people and the games area has a pool table and fruit machine, with seating for 15.

The details from Sprosen Ltd says: “Trade is driven by showing Sky Sports while there are other community driven attractions that appeal to the loyal regular local trade.”

The leasehold of the pub is £49,750.
