Popular Bristol pub to close for a week as staff told to self-isolate

A popular Bristol pub is to close for a week after staff were told they need to self-isolate.

The Kensington Arms in Redland shared the news on its Facebook page yesterday (Saturday, July 3) saying it is closed until Sunday, July 11.

It comes as the pub also had to shut on Thursday and Friday due to a staff shortage. They apologised to customers and said they had come ‘so close’ to reopening.

“Closed till 11th July! Once more sorry to anyone that this inconveniences,” they said in a statement.

“Ahh we came so close to reopening today but we’ve lost more of our team to track and trace isolation and you can’t run a ship with no shipmates now can ya?!

“Shout out to all the isolators, individuals and businesses, as we know there’s a whole host of others in the same position at the moment, and it’s no fun, but here’s to doing what you gotta do.”

Numerous hospitality venues in and around Bristol city centre have been forced to close in recent weeks due to Covid scares.

This week the Old Fish Market on Baldwin Street closed for 48 hours due to staff self-isolating. It has since reopened.

The Albion, LDs Plant Based Soul Food, The Lazy Dog and Molto Buono are among bars and restaurants that were forced to temporarily shut their doors.

Meanwhile hospitality venues have been struggling to recruit workers due to Covid.

Bristol Loaf founder Gary Derham had hoped to open his newest café and wine bar in the foyer of Bristol Beacon by mid-June, but has been forced to push the launch back to mid-July as he cannot recruit a full team.

It comes as a further 612 coronavirus cases have been discovered in the Bristol region, according to the latest figures.

According to Public Health England there have been another 336 positive coronavirus cases in the City of Bristol alone.

This means there have now been 345,235 coronavirus cases discovered across the city since the start of the pandemic in March last year.
