Popular Bold Street store Utility Home to close after more than a decade and relocate

A much loved city centre store has announced it will close after 15 years in business on Bold Street.

The Utility Home Store will close at the end of August, however it's not all bad news, as the store has revealed it will move to a 'larger, more suitable premises'.

Established in 1999, Utility is an independent Liverpool brand with currently two stores on Bold Street, one in Liverpool ONE and another on Oxford Road in Manchester.

Richard Skelton, director of Utility, said: "We have long outgrown our Bold Street furniture store and it’s no longer fit for purpose in the modern retailing landscape.

"38% of our turnover is now online and we are seeking space complementary to our online offer where customers can see larger furniture ranges and view a more comprehensive offer.

"We are UK dealers of all the major European design brands and Bold Street is far too small to show a reasonable representation of those brands and meet with both domestic customers and serve our every growing business to business/ contract furniture sales clients.

"We are working with local agencies to find suitable premises with large showroom space and parking, though this is proving challenging due to limited supply."

It is not yet known where Utility Home will relocate, but owners have stressed that customers will still be able to by furniture, lighting and home accessories.

Currently, there is a closing down sale taking place in the Bold Street store, with up to 70% off items.
