Popular bar wins fight to extend opening hours despite some complaints from families

A popular Prescot bar has had its opening hours extended despite complaints from families living nearby.

The Lord Strange bar on Eccleston Street previously had permission to open between 8am and 11pm every day, but applied to be open until 1am on weekends and to also offer live music.

But following a meeting of the Licensing Sub Committee last Monday, August 19,  the Shakespeare-inspired bar will now be open from 10am-11pm Monday to Wednesday and from 10am to midnight, Thursday to Sunday.

The bar had previously received noise complaints from local residents, with some neighbours claiming it was disrupting their family's sleep and even 'bringing down the area.'

But The Lord Strange, in response to complaints, gained more than 5,500 signatures in just five days on an online petition, with some agreeing 'Prescot needs places like this.'

The bar, which opened on August 2, said in its petition: "The objection has come from a couple of people and some local businesses and we are more than willing to negotiate/work with them on their concerns.

"The bar and kitchen is of great quality and we plan on it being part of the community for a long time."

The Liverpool ECHO has contacted The Lord Strange for a response.
