Popular bar restaurant closes as precaution after 'large number of coronavirus cases in the local area'

A popular bar restaurant near the border with Northern Ireland has decided to close as a precaution after it said there were "a large number of Covid-19 cases in the local area".

On their Facebook page, the Rosewood Country Club in Ravensdale, Dundalk, Co Louth said: "We have taken the decision to close in the interest of safety of our customers and staff.

"As a precautionary measure all our staff will be tested, we appreciate your understanding at this time and keep you updated as when we will reopen."

The restaurant is around 6km as the crow flies from the village of Jonesborough in Co Armagh, where the primary school there has confirmed a case in one of its classes.

A letter from the principal said the classroom in question will undergo an "enhanced clean" and public health will contact anyone in contact with the pupil.

The rest of the school remains open and the letter has been published on local Facebook pages.

Another business close to Newry said that a member of its staff had tested positive but the worker did not have contact with the public.
