Popular Ayrshire craft shop closes doors due to cost of living crisis

A popular Ayrshire art shop has closed its doors due to the cost of living crisis.

Doodle Craft in Kilmarnock is shutting to the disappointment of customers, but the owner has admitted the shop is a "luxury some can't afford".

The Bellfield shop on Whatriggs Road won't be going out of business completely as they'll be offering mobile services and also delivery options.

Owner Karen posted on Facebook: "Unfortunately this it the most upsetting post that I never wanted to or thought I’d ever write.

"It’s with the heaviest of hearts that I have made the decision to close the shop.

"As you know we are all struggling in some way during this crazy time and rising prices are just getting ridiculous, DC is a luxury that some just can’t afford at this time and I get that.

"So going forward I’m going to go mobile, so you’re not getting rid of me just yet!

"When I come back from holiday and have dealt with the shop, I will set up an online shop and you can order and I’ll deliver, this way it helps to keep cost down as there’s no crazy overheads. I will still do birthday parties too, more to follow.

"On Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22 and the following weekend the shop will be open to sell everything off at great prices, so please come in for a bargain, I will post more on my return.

"I thank you all for the last six years, it’s been amazing!"
