Popeye's Manager Allegedly Opened Fire on Employee Following Dispute Over Burnt Biscuits

Rodney Wood, 22

A Popeye's manager in North Carolina allegedly opened fire on another employee during an argument over burnt biscuits.

Rodney Wood, 22, faces a first-degree attempted murder charge in the shooting, fox8live reported. A customer witnessed the incident and said it began as a dispute about overcooked biscuits.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. on May 11. According to the witness, the two men argued and then challenged each other to a fistfight. The two men then went outside, and during the fracas, Wood is alleged to have pulled out a gun and fired two rounds, the station reported.

The station reported that the other employee was struck in the groin and the chest. Following the shooting, Wood ran away but was quickly apprehended. Although he claimed self-defense the station reported that police found that "he failed to articulate a credible, imminent threat of deadly force necessary to support a self-defense claim under state law."

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was found by police in the Popeye's parking lot, WCNC reported.

The station reported that Wood also is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken to Mecklenburg County jail where he was held on $500,000 bond. His next court date is May 29.
