Pop-up shop success stories to set up their own retail store

Two businesses given a retail opportunity at a pop-up shop are now setting up their own store.

Annemarie Sharp from Cowboys and Angels Children’s Boutique and Sharon Beck from Shaz’s Shabby CHIC were regulars at the pop-up store in Buckley.

It was set up by Martin Evans, managing director of Flintshire Small Business Network (FSBN) to help fledgling firms get a retail foothold.

Now the businesses will open Shazam PopUp Shop in Buckley this Saturday.

Martin, from FSBN, part of the UK Business Network, said: “This is great news for the businesses and great news for residents of Buckley.

“This means one less empty shop unit in Buckley and the community will get a shop they will use as the business owners have already tested the market through our original pop-up shop.

“The way our shop works is that small businesses can rent a space for the day or a number of days. The space can be used for all kinds of things - cookery demonstrations, flower arranging demos and board game days. This shows how versatile the space can be!”

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Derek Butler, said: “This innovative pop-up shop is proving to be a great way to bring small businesses back to the high street. Flintshire Council fully supports this initiative and I’m pleased to hear that these two business owners are now striking out on their own.

“I wish them every success for the future.”
