Pop up shop gets a new lease of life in Dalbeattie

A community hub in Dalbeattie has been given a makeover by the property owners.

The Pop Up Shop on Maxwell Street now boasts a bright new colour scheme and frontage.

Local company Jas P Wilson provided the premises free of charge to local groups to help them raise funds or awareness of their causes.

The firm’s Jim Wilson said: “We have given the shop a bit of a facelift to make it stand out a bit more.

“It blended into the background a bit before. There’s a new colour scheme, signage and logos.

“We hope it will encourage even more groups to use it. It has an important place in the town and helps a lot of local good causes raise their profile.”

Charities and not-for-profit organisations raised £10,500 for their various causes in 2019.

The figure fell drastically in 2020 due to Covid closures of retail venues.

Pop Up Shop regulars include local schools, the Birchvale Theatre, Civic Daze and Dalbeattie Scouts.

Bookings are taken by Michelle McRobert, manager of Dalbeattie Community Initiative.
