Pop-up pub to open on Bristol Harbourside - but it’s only for job seekers

A pop-up pub is opening on Bristol Harbourside - but it is only for job seekers.

The Linked Inn - so-called after the professional networking site - will open its doors tonight (Tuesday, June 11).

The pop-up venue, which was created by LinkedIn, comes to Bristol following research that 40 per cent of those in the South West would rather spend their time in the pub than apply for a job.

Punters will be able to meet companies including H&M, Hargreaves Lansdown and John Lewis Partnership which will be advertising vacancies on the 'live job specials board'.

Visitors to the pub will be able to discuss job opportunities on offer, get profile advice from LinkedIn experts and have their picture taken by a professional photographer.

Darain Faraz, careers expert at LinkedIn, said: “We know the job search is perceived as a lengthy process, but it doesn’t need to be as time consuming as people think.

“That’s why we opened The Linked Inn - to show that socialising with a professional network, much like you would your friends in the pub, can get you closer to the job you want."

Those in the South West are so deterred by looking and applying for a new job, according to LinkedIn, that almost a third (28 per cent) would prefer to clean their house.

On average, those from Bristol and the South West region spend over six hours a week browsing social media for leisure purposes, but just one hour a week on social channels for professional purposes.

And only 12 per cent use their social time to build connections to help with their career.

The pub is located on the Harbourside and will be open between 5pm and 9pm. To book tickets, visit eventbrite.
