Pop-up proposal for independent businesses at Beverley's flagship Flemingate centre

Small businesses, start-up retailers and local artists are being given the opportunity to open their doors to customers at Beverley’s bustling Flemingate centre.

Wykeland Group, owner of the popular retail and leisure destination, has dedicated an 850 sq ft unit as a pop-up space to help small companies and independent traders take their first step into physical retail.

Located between Guitar Galleries and hair and beauty salon Vintage & Co, opposite a new Sports Direct and USC store which opens next month, it will give traders and artists a chance to test the water.

Jo Bridgeman, Flemingate’s marketing and events manager, said: “We’re always keen to support local independents as part of the continually developing and evolving mix of retail and leisure outlets at Flemingate, so we’re encouraging start-up brands and creatives to take advantage of the new pop-up space.

“This is a great opportunity for emerging businesses and artists to bridge the online and offline worlds, expand their audience and give visitors to Flemingate a unique shopping experience.”

She told how there was a growing trend to support local independents and small businesses wit the pop-up space providing “a risk-free opportunity for traders or artists to showcase their brand and products”.

It follows a similar initiative at Hull's Fruit Market, where Wykeland is a partner with Beal Homes and Hull City Council on the major regeneration scheme.

“We’re happy to talk to people about occupying the unit for limited periods of time that enable their brand to benefit from a physical profile in a high-footfall location,” she said.

“Since the re-opening of retail and leisure, we have seen footfall rise to 10 per cent above the equivalent period in 2019 and it would be great to see emerging businesses add to Flemingate’s offer.”

A location for leading national retail and leisure brands and local independents, it is also home to East Riding College’s Beverley campus, an 80-bed Premier Inn hotel, six-screen Parkway cinema and 130 homes.
