Pop-up beer shop opens to support Bristol's struggling pubs and restaurants

A pop-up shop has opened in Bristol to raise funds for the city's struggling pubs and restaurants.

BARBIE (The Bristol Association of Restaurants, Bars and Independent Establishments) has taken over the unit in The Arcade, Broadmead, which was formerly home to the Crazy Fox café.

The group is selling a range of boozy products on behalf of independent breweries and venues across the city, which have all been hugely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Shoppers can expect to find cocktail kits, ready-made cocktails, cocktail boxes, engraved beer growlers, cans of beer, Italian food hampers and much more.

Some of the breweries represented at the shop include Fierce and Noble, Wiper and True, Lost and Grounded, Tapestry, Moor Beer, Arbor Ales, Yonder, Good Chemistry, Ganley and Naish, Left Handed Giant and more.

Businesses showcasing their products include Flipside Cocktail Club, Brozen, The Volunteer Tavern, The Crown, Beerd, Taste of Napoli, Cloak and Dagger, Smoke and Mirrors, Crofters Rights and more.

The vacant unit was donated to BARBIE by the owners of The Arcade free of charge.

BARBIE co-founder Brendan Murphy said: "We wanted to do something to support venues across the city, who are all really struggling right now.

"While the sales at the shop won’t change the world, we hope they will at least provide an additional revenue stream for struggling breweries and venues in the run up to Christmas and the New Year.

"We've got a huge range of fantastic products on offer from some of Bristol's finest suppliers in the heart of Broadmead."

The pop-up will be open every day until Christmas Eve before closing for three days.

It will then re-open between December 28 and New Year's Eve, giving people a chance to stock up for their end-of-year celebrations.

It is open between 12pm and 7pm daily, except for Christmas Eve when it closes at 4.30pm.
