Pop star Billie Eilish confirms her iconic black and green hair was really a wig

Billie Eilish revealed her famous green and black hair has actually been a wig for most of 2021.

The teen star broke the Internet on Wednesday, unveiled a dramatic makeover when she showed off her new bleach blonde locks in a social media video.

She smashed the record for reaching one million likes with her blonde hair reveal, achieving the feat in just six minutes.

The Bad Guy singer's picture has now been liked more than 20 million times – the fourth highest for a picture on Instagram ever.

But it seems she was fooling us all for months.

Billie was actually wearing a wig since January after working on her new styles for weeks and weeks.

The 19-year-old star wrote: "This was in my drafts LOL my hair been blonde for like two months."

In the snippet, Billie pops up on camera and whips her hair back, revealing a layered blonde bob.

She twirls around before throwing the camera a cheeky smile.

More than 20 million have liked her photo on Instagram (Instagram)

She captioned it: "Did you guess correctly?"

She'd previously teased fans about which colour she was going to dye her hair.

Many have been speculating for months that she was now wearing a wig – and their detective work wasn't wasted.

Billie, who has spoken out in the past about her decision to wear baggy clothes in a bid to avoid being "sexualised", has become a hugely successful artist in her short time in the industry and won a legion of fans with her unique vocal stylings.

Last week she picked up more prizes at the Grammy Awards, winning Record of the Year for the second year in a row.

She won for her single Everything I Wanted, but the achievement was soured by critics online.
