Brooklynite and Mike Patton acolyte Imani Coppola has been making edgy hip hop for a decade. But this pop project (a collaboration with DJ Adam Pallin) might just be her making. Coming over like Kelis with Lily Allen's forked rhymes, Coppola laces these deceptively frothy sunshine beats with dispatches from the darkest reaches of her soul, especially on lead single 'The World Should Revolve Around Me' . And while the rhymes are frustratingly clunky at times ('What came first, the Chicken Nugget or the Egg McMuffin?'), her charisma ensures the result is rarely less than compelling.
