Poor tickets sales force East Midlands festival featuring Rita Ora and The Vamps to be cancelled

A music festival featuring Rita Ora and The Vamps has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

The gig, called Derby Sound, was a new initiative labelled as a one-day pop festival.

The day of music was set to be hosted at Derbyshire County Cricket Club on August 3.

But due to poor ticket sales, the organiser and artists have made the decision to cancel the event.

The cricket club's chief executive Ryan Duckett said he was disappointed to see the event axed, Derbyshire Live reports.

He said: "Having spoken to the promoter, I know the move was not taken lightly, but we understand their decision.

"As a unique venue in Derby, we have hosted three successful concerts over the past two years and will continue to work with promoters regarding events for 2020."

The standing-only concert was also due to feature drum and bass band Rudimental and four-piece group Rak-Su.

Those who purchased tickets through the cricket club will be contacted directly regarding a refund. For more information on refunds, readers are advised to email  info@derbyshireccc.com.
