Poor Cardiff City player ratings as defender has nightmare and Vontae Campbell sent off

Jak Alwnick 6

Had very little to do after his excellent first-minute save against Joe Pigott. Made another really tidy stop from Michael Jacobs, too, and Jay Mingi late on. Looked tidy with the ball at his feet and couldn't do anything about either goal.

Vontae Campbell 3

Looked exciting going forward early on, one of his shots was deflected in by the offside Mark Harris. Involved in the miscommunication for the first goal. Horror tackle late on - saw a red on debut.

Ollie Denham 4

Enjoyable to watch him on the ball and he scarcely put a foot out of line defensively, either. Just worry that sometimes he looks a little frail when big strikers are brought into the fold.

Curtis Nelson 2

Another poor, poor pass gifted Portsmouth the chance to score their first - and they did. Conceded a penalty then, just like against Reading, to gift them their second. Nightmare for him.

Joel Bagan 4

A solid start from the left-back, his first of the season. But just lacked that confidence and final cross at times. Was also outjumped by Colby Bishop for the third goal.

Eli King 4

Had a couple of nervy moments, including gifting an early chance to Pompey when he was dispossessed on his own 18-yard line. Was uncharacteristically sloppy in possession and hit some meek shots.

Joe Ralls 5

Was a more attacking performance than was expected. Constantly popped up on the edge of the Pompey box and let off a few shots. Ticked play over, too.

Ollie Tanner 4

Just looked like he was trying too hard at times. Perhaps forgivable, given the step up he has made. He'll get better than that. First taste of it.

Gavin Whyte 5

Looked sharp and lively when afforded the opportunity. Had one good effort cleared off the line in the first half. Not a bad outing, all things considered.

Jaden Philogene 6 (star man)

The standout attacking performer by a country mile. Created the lion's share of Cardiff's best chances. Probably the only positive to come out of the evening.

Mark Harris 5

Had one good breakaway which led to a chance but otherwise wasn't in the game very much. Tried his utmost, as ever, but struggled to make that telling impact.

Subs

Rubin Colwill (Tanner 52) 5 - Looked bright enough and tried to get things going. Hit one rasping shot just wide.

Sheyi Ojo (Whyte 52) 5 - Set up a good chance seconds after coming on but went quiet after that.

Kion Etete (Philogene 73) 4 - Didn't do a great deal. Miscontrolled once or twice.
