Pools of blood seen on Roundhay street sealed off by police as man rushed to hospital

Police cordoned off parts of the Roundhay area in Leeds this morning after a man seriously injured himself by punching a window.

Emergency services, including paramedics, were called to Shaftesbury Avenue in the early hours of Saturday where they found the man, in his 30s, had sustained a serious cut to his arm.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed his injuries occurred after he punched a window.

The man was rushed to hospital where he is in a stable condition.

A large police presence was in place throughout the morning with some reports suggesting "large pools of blood" were visible on the street.

Police tape could be seen near a row of shops at the junction of Shaftesbury Avenue and Street Lane - the cordon has now been lifted.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police in Leeds were called to reports of a concern of safety of (sic) Shaftesbury Avenue in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, January 16).

"Emergency services including ambulance attended.

"A man in his 30s was taken to hospital after sustaining a serious cut to his own arm after punching a window. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

"A police cordon was in place this morning but has since been closed."
