'Pool of blood on the floor' after baseball bat attack in Litherland street

A man was taken to hospital after he was attacked with a wooden bat in the street.

Police were called out to Linacre Road in at around 1.30am today following reports that a  52 year-old man had been assaulted in the street.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said his injuries were not life threatening.

A worker in a local shop told the ECHO that the man was attacked with a baseball bat. Another local person said they saw 'a pool of blood on the floor' at the crime scene.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called at 1.30am following reports a 52 year-old man had been assaulted outside a property on Linacre Road. It is believed a wooden bat may have been used in the assault."

There was a crime scene in place at the corner of Linacre Road and Longfield Road earlier this morning.

Det Insp Cat Walsh said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Linacre Road and Longfield Road in the early hours of this morning who may have seen anything to contact us.

“I would also ask for anyone who may have captured anything on dash cam footage to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to the investigation.”
