Pool of blood and weapon found by dog walker in Glenrothes as cops launch probe

Police have launched a probe after a shocked dog walker discovered a pool of blood next to a weapon on a Glenrothes street.

Officers were alerted to the grim find on Foxton Drive at around 10.20am on Boxing Day.

Alcohol containers were also found nearby the pool of blood and the weapon.

Police Scotland are now growing concerned for a person that may have been injured in relation to the discovery.

Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan of the Public Protection Unit said: “Given the volume of blood, it is believed a person could have sustained a significant injury or at least required some form of medical attention.

"We are obviously concerned for the welfare of anyone who may be injured and so would be keen to hear from people who have been in and around the area last night or early this morning.

"Initial enquiries have failed to trace any injured people and we are keen to ensure whoever was involved is safe and well and getting medical help if required.

"If you were in the area between 10pm last night and 10.20am this morning and think you may be able to help out enquiry, then please call Glenrothes Police Station quoting reference number 1293 of the December 26, 2019. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111."
