Pony 'left to die alone in pain' after sulky crashes into parked car

A pony was left to "die in pain, alone" after the sulky it was pulling crashed into a parked car.

The incident took place on the Cloverhill Road in the west of Ballyfermot. Those driving the sulky cart allegedly fled the scene while the pony died a short while later.

There was no microchip found in the pony so it will be difficult to track the owners. My Lovely Horse Rescue were at the scene of the incident and urged anyone with video footage of or knowledge of those involved to contact the gardai.

My Lovely Horse Rescue tweeted: "Reports came in of a pony attached to a sulky speeding down the road. It went straight into a parked car.

"The people driving the sulky jumped off, took the bits off the sulky and ran. They left this poor pony to die in pain, alone.

"The pony died with part of the sulky still attached outside St Olivers Training and Education Centre, Cloverhill Road in Co. Dublin.

"Gardai and DSPCA arrived & checked for a chip. Sadly, this poor pony is not chipped & therefore, we have no 'owner' to prosecute.

"The car had no one in it, thank god. If you passed & have dash cam video please contact us and we will pass to Gardai."

They added: "Another animal dies in pain because of cruel humans that don’t give a damn! We need a Garda animal crime unit more than ever. This cruelty needs to stop!"

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai from the DMR North region responded to an incident in the Dublin 22 area on Tuesday 2nd May 2023. An Garda Siochana are investigating all the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"No further information is available at this time."
