Armed police swoop on Pontypridd station after attack left man, 25, with puncture wounds

Armed police have swooped on Pontypridd train station after an incident man left a 25-year-old man with "traumatic" injuries.

Pictures from the scene show that the area in front of the station was cordoned off, as was the Graig area behind the train station.

The ambulance service said they received reports of a person with "traumatic injuries" just before 11.30am today.

Police later said a 25-year-old man was left with "puncture wounds" to his legs after an assault near the railway station.

Four ambulance vehicles were dispatched to the scene and the injured man was taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for further treatment.

South Wales Police have confirmed their attendance at the incident at Pontypridd train station this afternoon.

Det Insp Emma Hampton of South Wales Police said: "We are continuing with our extensive inquiries to identify those responsible, and local officers have stepped up patrols in and around the area.

"The assault occurred in a very public place at a time when the town would have been busy - we need anybody with information to get in touch."

A force spokeswoman earlier said: "A number of police units are currently in Pontypridd following an incident which occurred at approximately 11.30am near Pontypridd train station on Friday, 28 May, 2021.

"A police cordon is set up at the location.

"One man has been conveyed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Anybody in the area at the time is asked to contact 101 and give ref: 185919 or they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to Pontypridd Railway Station this morning, Friday 28 May at approximately 11.27am to reports of a person with traumatic injuries.

"We attended with one rapid response vehicle, one emergency ambulance and our Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service team.

"One patient was taken by road to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for further treatment."
