Pontus Jansson won't have long to wait for a Leeds United reunion

After a weekend of escalating rumours and speculation, Pontus Jansson's Leeds United exit was confirmed on Monday evening.

The Sweden defender's three-year spell at Elland Road, during which time he became a favourite among sections of the Whites' fanbase, has ended with a switch to Championship rivals Bretford.

Jansson leaves Leeds for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year deal at Griffin Park, as Thomas Frank's men look to improve on last season's 11th-place finish.

The Swede made 37 Championship starts under Marcelo Bielsa last season as Leeds finished third in the table before crashing out of the play-offs at the semi-final stage.

The 28-year-old's exit comes amid reports of a breakdown in his relationship with the club, as Bielsa decided to cut ties and move on from the Swede.

Jansson's departure has split the fanbase, with some supporters saluting the defender's heart-on-his-sleeve mentality, while others place their trust in Bielsa's methods.

It will therefore be fascinating to see what kind of reception Jansson gets when he visits Elland Road for the first time as a Brentford player.

And as luck would have it, we won't have to wait long for it.

Brentford will be Leeds' second opponents at Elland Road once the new season gets underway, as the Bees are scheduled to visit West Yorkshire on August 21 for a midweek clash under the floodlights.

If last season's fixture is anything to go by, then Jansson will be the central figure. Back in October, the Swede netted a 88th minute equaliser for Bielsa's side before taking aim at referee Jeremy Simpson in his on-pitch post-match Sky Sports interview, accusing him of 'robbery'.

Jansson was later slapped with a one-match ban for his comments.
