Pontus Jansson speaks out as brother dismisses talk of Marcelo Bielsa falling out as ‘fake news’

Pontus Jansson has spoken in the Swedish media about Leeds United ’s play-off heartbreak, ahead of upcoming fixtures with his national team.

The interview comes a couple of days after the centre-half broke his silence after the defeat to Derby , posting an Instagram update.

“It shouldn’t end like that,” he wrote in the caption. “Still don’t understand it today how it all could end so quickly.”

This comes after his brother, Peter Jansson, took to Twitter to set the record straight on reports in the tabloids of a bust-up between the Swedish international and the club's head coach, Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbolskanalen , Jansson reflected on how frustrating it was to watch the 4-2 defeat to Derby.

“Still tough. Have talked about it now a couple of evenings there at home with family and friends. All friends who had booked flights to London. It's totally unreal,” he said. “Played every match throughout the year, then comes a s*** when you can't play and influence. It was tough. It makes it even worse.”

He also reflected on other key moments during the run-in, where dropped points cost Leeds automatic promotion.

The now-infamous Wigan defeat, in which United let slip a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 despite having an extra man against the relegation battlers, was particularly painful for the Swede. “Lead and with a man more, and still lose. It was the worst match of my life. It was absolutely terrible,” he said.

He offered a considered, diplomatic view on the Aston Villa draw, in which he memorably looked to deny Albert Adomah scoring after his manager had instructed his team to allow them to score.

“In one way he understood me, in another way he obviously wanted me to listen to what he said,” he explained. “It was like I told him and the others, that on the ground there is so much going on. It is difficult to get a picture of what to do. I just reacted as I felt was right in the second. Then like this afterwards, maybe I should have let them.”

The defender has often been linked with moves away, reportedly coming close to a move to Russian club Krasnodar after the World Cup last summer. His brother also , but circumstances will dictate that the fan favourite may well be regularly linked with transfers over the upcoming window.
