Pontus Jansson has wished former club Leeds United well for their upcoming season in the Premier League, after his Brentford side missed out on promotion.
The Swedish centre half moved from Elland Road to Griffin Park last summer after the Whites themselves tasted play-off heartache, losing to Derby County in the semi-finals.
History would repeat itself for Jansson, after Brentford narrowly missed out on automatic promotion despite posting an eight-match winning streak and finishing third behind West Bromwich Albion and Leeds.
The Bees beat Swansea over two-legs in the play-off semi-finals, but Fulham were victorious in the final at Wembley, with two Joe Bryan goals in extra-time sealing a 2-1 win.
And Jansson vowed to use the disappointment as motivation for next season. The defender posted a picture on his Instagram account, with a message for the three promoted clubs in the caption.
"Really tough to put words into the end of this season," he wrote. "We were so close but couldn’t take it over the line, and of course it feels tough a day like today.
"What I know is that this will give us extra motivation into the next season.
"I will also congratulate Fulham, West Bromwich and of course all my friends at Leeds for what you achieved. All the best next season!
"I am so thankful for all support I’ve got from all friends, family and people back in Sweden and of course to all Brentford fans that have supporting us over the season! See you soon!
"The biggest thanks to all players, staff and people around the team, we have given it all and never stopped believing! You have been unbelievable."
