Pontus Jansson's latest Leeds United comparison as he hails Kalvin Phillips' influence

Former Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson continues to have his old club on the brain as he prepares for Tuesday evening's Championship playoff final.

The Swede's Brentford side face off against Fulham at an empty Wembley Stadium with the final spot in next season's Premier League is up for grabs.

Jansson has previously spoken of his dream of seeing both Leeds and Bretford promoted this season and is just 90 minutes away from that being realised.

Ahead of coming up against Scott Parker's side this week, Jansson has discussed one of the Bees' unsung heroes on their road to Wembley and could not help but use Marcelo Bielsa's champions as a reference points.

Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard has been operating in front of the Brentford defence this season and Jansson has compared his influence to that of his former teammate Kalvin Phillips.

"People who watch this league don't understand how good Christian is," Jansson told our sister site football.london. "Kalvin Phillips, yes, he is one of the best players in the league but Christian is if not as good then just behind him.

"He is one of the best midfielders in this league and he has been the key to this team this season.

"He needs more credit than what he has gotten so far. He is a fantastic player, a fantastic person and he is the biggest key thing in this team."

Considering how important the BMW frontline of Said Benrahma, Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins have been in the Londoner's impressive campaign, that is high praise indeed.

Jansson also had special praise for Mbeumo, who is believes has the highest ceiling of the prolific trio.

"Bryan is probably going to be better then both of them in the future because he has such talent," Jansson added.
