Pontus Jansson reunited with Leeds United teammate as former defender spotted at Thorp Arch

Pontus Jansson has been pictured returning to Thorp Arch this morning as the defender bid a final farewell to Leeds United.

The Swede completed a £5.5m move to Championship rivals Brentford this summer after his relationship with Marcelo Bielsa became strained.

Despite being hugely popular amongst the support base, the Argentine chief ordered for the Sweden international to be sold after his relationship with the club broke down.

The most high profile case came in April, with Jansson going against Bielsa’s orders to allow Albert Adomah to walk the ball into an empty net, instead, trying to tackle the Aston Villa forward.

After two years at Elland Road, this visit likely was to say his final goodbyes to teammates and pick up the last of his belongings.

Jansson was pictured chatting with Gjanni Alioski on the Macedonian’s Instagram story at the club’s training ground.

Having not reported for pre-season training, this will be the first time the pair have been reunited in months.

Jansson will be back next month, however, with Leeds taking on Brentford at Elland Road on Wednesday August 21.

Friends off the field, the duo will have to put friendship aside as they go head to head in another heated Championship battle.

Leeds are yet to sign a replacement for Jansson, with Ben White, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi the only senior centre-back options available to Bielsa.

With the transfer window slamming shut in eight days, time is of the essence if the Whites want to get another body through the door.
