Pontus Jansson recalls rival fan confrontation following Leeds United Yorkshire derby

Pontus Jansson has revealed he was once attacked by a beer bottle when playing for Leeds United.

The popular centre-back spent three seasons at the Whites before surprisingly departing for Brentford in 2019.

Appearing on a podcast in his native Sweden, the 30-year-old was asked about his experiences in English football, and he revealed he had twice been confronted by Huddersfield Town fans after facing the Terriers.

Fotbollskanalen report that Jansson revealed he had an altercation with a fan after a game, which led to him being attacked by a beer bottle.

He said: "It was in that match the first time it happened.

"I was on my way to the bus in Leeds after we lost to them.

"I have to blame myself too, it was not like I was backing down. I was also cheeky back, I have to blame myself.

"But with age, I would not do the same thing now, I want to represent both myself and my club in a better way.

"It has happened twice against Huddersfield. They attacked me outside the arena once in Leeds and once in Brentford.

"You have so much adrenaline, it is clear that it could have been dangerous.

"Every now and then there was a beer bottle they attacked me with."

Yet Jansson revealed no harm was done by the incident, joking that the empty bottle may have been the reason the fan was unable to make contact with him.

"He was probably a couple of beers in, so he missed when he swung," he laughed. "It was fine."
