Pontus Jansson finally breaks his silence on Leeds United's play-off devastation

Confused Pontus Jansson has broken his silence on Leeds United’s miserable end to the season and still doesn’t understand how it all ended so quickly.

The Whites were in the Championship’s top two for the majority of the campaign, but fell away in the spring and ended the regular season with their worst run of form.

The play-offs began well with a 1-0 win at Derby County, but despite striking first at Elland Road, United eventually found themselves eliminated 4-3 on aggregate.

Jansson missed the first leg through injury and was an unused substitute for the second leg, but stayed on the pitch at Elland Road long after full-time, watching Derby celebrate.

Television cameras and photographers ensured Jansson’s reaction was captured as he sat in front of the East Stand watching the Rams while the disappointment sank in.

Taking to Instagram this afternoon, the Sweden international has finally had his say on last Wednesday’s disappointment.

“It shouldn’t end like that,” he said. “Still don’t understand it today how it all could end so quickly.

“We gave all every single day and deserved more but sometimes you don’t get what you deserve.

“I’m proud of my club, team-mates and fans that we never gave up. Thanks for all support and all the efforts during the year.”
