Pontus Jansson adds extra edge to Leeds United match for Manchester United defender

Leeds United’s long rivalry with Manchester United is not lost on Victor Lindelof who expects a tough match next month with compatriot Pontus Jansson.

The Sweden international is likely to play some part in the friendly between the Whites and the Red Devils when they face off in Perth on July 17.

Lindelof knows Jansson well from international duty and they will lock horns at opposite ends of the pitch when the friendly arrives.

The 24-year-old has been briefed on what this meeting will mean to each club’s supporters and told his side’s official website he expects a challenge.

“I’ve never played against them but I’ve heard about the rivalry with Leeds of course,” he said. “Even if it is a pre-season game, I think it’s going to be a tough one.

“I have a Swedish friend (Jansson) playing there so it’s also going to be fun. I’m looking forward to that game.”

Earlier this month, team-mate Lee Grant also talked up how much everyone at Old Trafford is looking forward to meeting Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
