Pontins site bans children from seaside resort as it becomes adult-only

Pontins has left parents furious after announcing it is banning children at one of its seaside resorts.

The Pakefield resort at Lowestoft in Suffolk will become an adults-only destination after 70 years of catering for family holidays.

This is the second Pontins site in the UK which has banned children.

Southport's resort remains a family-friendly holiday park at present.

Infuriated parents have now launched a petition urging bosses to reconsider the move, reports the Mirror.

Paul Daley, 50, of Ipswich, Suffolk, started the petition after holidaying with Pontins for the past 12 years.

His wife Mary, 48, said: “Our daughter is now 12, but we started going there when she was about six-months-old.

“It’s reasonably priced, there was great entertainment and some really good facilities for children. It was just a nice place to go on holiday... I don’t see why they’ve banned children it’s a shame.”

The ban was introduced at the start of the year at Pakefield, in Lowestoft, Suffolk, which opened in 1958. The Pontins website says the children’s playground area is currently being altered to cater for older guests.

It reads: “We are all excited for the coming year as we transition into an adult-only park.”

Mr Daley’s petition has been signed by more than 100 people since it was set up earlier this month.

It reads: “Pontins Pakefield have stopped family breaks from 2020.

"They are now only available for adults. Families who have been coming for years, even decades can no longer go. People are very unhappy.”

Peter Byatt, East Suffolk county councillor, said: “It is a shame because we should be encouraging children and families to come here and enjoy the old-fashioned seaside holiday.”
