Pontins birthday trip hell as woman in tears at 'blood spattered' chalet

A birthday treat turned into a holiday nightmare for one woman after her trip to Pontins Holiday park.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous travelled to Brean Sands Holiday Park but was left in tears after finding ‘absolutely filthy’ accommodation.

She was due to stay for four nights with her partner and child but they left after just four hours, reports Devon Live.

She said the PVC on the door within the apartment had blood on it and inside the fridge smelled like 'stinking gone off milk'.

The family also found a 'pubic hair' in the bathroom and dead flies in the shower.

Britannia Hotels who own Pontins has been approached for a comment, but the holiday company has not responded

The visitor from Devon said: "From the second we arrived we just did not like the look of the place. The apartment was minging, I wouldn't even change my child's dirty nappy in there.

"We looked in the bathroom and there was dead flies and pubic hairs. The mirror was covered in toothpaste.

"I then looked at the kitchen space and underneath the microwave wasn't clean. There was a toaster full of crumbs.

"The PVC on the door within the apartment had blood on it. The fridge was stinking like gone off milk.

"The ironing board was stained, tiles were falling off in the bathroom and a curtain was half hanging down.

"And, we were expected to sleep on a rock solid leather sofa bed.

"Because my mum had paid for it I just rang her up in tears, saying I can't let my baby stay here. And then four hours later we left."

The woman says that she had been looking forward to the birthday trip and was excited to be staying in one of the parks more prestigious apartments.

According to Pontins website, Club Apartment's provide guests with a 'host of additional benefits like free electricity' as well as the 'extra luxury of early check-in from 2pm'.

She said: "Mum had paid extra for us to stay in a Club Apartment. So you would think if you pay extra, you get better. But no.

"We arrived ready to check in at 2pm, but we were left waiting for 45-minutes until we were handed our keys.

"When we got there we were given a duvet set, we just thought, hang on a minute, do you expect us to make the bed ourselves? We are on holiday.

"We also had to pay an extra £10 to book a cot for our little one. When we got on the site, we were then told we have to pay an extra £20 to go and collect it ourselves. Again, really?

"That was already pushing outside of our budget. That extra money we spent on the cot could of been an evenings worth of food or something like that."

After an immediate bad first impression, the family say things just went from bad to worse.

She said: "We walked into the apartment and it was minging. I walked in to find out that we were expected to sleep on a rock solid leather sofa bed.

"It was obviously up as a sofa when we got there but when we pulled it out there was dirt all in the cracks. I opened a cupboard and there was a stained ironing board, it was a horrible colour.

"The bathroom was minging. The mirror was covered in toothpaste. My partner touched one of the tiles on the wall and it fell off. They were all cracked.

"We looked above the shower and there was dead flies and what looked like fly eggs. There was also pubic hair.

"The table looked as if it had been sat outside for six months, there was rust all over the base.

"It was endless. The fixings on the wall was damaged, behind the radiator was all dirty, there was a curtain half hanging off.

"We expected to at least have our own room to sleep in. But nope, if we had stayed it would have been on the sofa in the living room.

"There was a room with two single beds in it, but I didn't even look in there. I just thought I am getting out of here now."

After an incredibly disappointing start, the woman says she called up her mum in tears explaining the situation.

She added: "We tried to speak with a staff member on site but he was unbothered. He sat there, legs open, laid back without a care in the world.

"I thought look at it, look at his posture. He didn't even care. There was no professionalism."

The family say that they tried to get a full refund before leaving the site, but were told they need to call Pontins head office, which costs money.

She said: "My mum is dealing with the refund as it was all under her name and everything. In the end we managed to find a nice holiday park called Ladram Bay in Exmouth so we went there and it was just amazing."
