Pompeo Voices US Commitment to Lebanon’s Stability, Security

Lebanese Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil received on Friday a cable from his US counterpart Mike Pompeo, who underlined Washington’s commitment to supporting Lebanon's stability, security and prosperity.

Pompeo emphasized his support for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, which "plays a key role in southern Lebanon and we have to maintain its mandate."

He said the UN peacekeepers are essential to confronting the challenges of peace and security, reported Lebanon’s National News Agency.

"We have to ensure that UNIFIL budget is proper and is equipped to carry out its missions on the ground," he said, expressing support for peace operations around the world.
